Wm. Shakespeare Jr. Style C Handmade Level Wind Circa-1897. This is the Historical first Wm. Shakespeare Handmade level wind Reel patented on October 5th 1897. This reel has some plate loss as seen but is in good condition and functions perfectly. The attention to detail is amazing as shown with the rim mounted Clicker and brake slide controls on the head plate rim, both function perfectly. This now famous twin worm gear level wind reel slides easily side to side on comand and is extremely smooth and fast. All parts including Handle, foot and bearing covers are catalog correct with the very early serial number #650 showing under the foot. The plate loss is very typical for these old handmade reels when found and this is better then most. Great first Shakespeare reel that belongs in the center of any collection.
