Union Hardware Company SAMSON No. #250 with Original Chimney Box Circa-1923. Here is a brief Brief History of this Company: The Union Hardware Company Torrington, CT. began in 1864 in what had been an old lock shop in the area known as Torrington Hollow CT. By autumn of 1865, the company relocated down the Naugatuck River into its own set of new buildings. Throughout this time, the company was engaged in the manufacture of ice skates of all sizes and styles. In the following years, Union Hardware expanded its product line to include items made of iron, leather, and wood. In 1905, the manufacture of steel fishing rods began followed by the manufacture of fishing reels in 1923. This reel is in very good condition showing just a touch of brass through the Nickel on a couple pillars ( Which is expected on these oldtimers) with a strong working clicker. The finish is nice and a mirror reflextion with a few scratches seen only in Hi definition. Its spins extremely fast and smooth. Both front and back bearing covers are brass with the rear cover removable. Everything is original and catalog correct to this combination. The box is in pretty good condition and functions perfectly with a good label. Just a great combination of Fishing Tackle History.
