Extremely RARE Louis A. Kiefer Double Patent Freespool & Detachable Foot Fine German Silver Reel Circa-1882. Louis received two patents for the Kiefer reel on August 23, 1881 and then on February 21, 1882. The first patent was for a freespool feature. The second patent was for a removable foot that was meant to be permanently attached to the fishing rod. The reel was removed from the foot by depressing a spring loaded lock and rotating it 90 degrees. The freespool mechanism is located on the lower right side of the head plate rim in a perfect position for handle control. The freespool works perfectly as well. This spectacular reel is also equiped with a pull brake function located on the front rim for backlash control. All functions work exactly as designed and all parts are original catalog correct. The reel is extremely fast, smooth, and is a extremely well built reel as you would expect from a expert clock maker. It is a beautiful reel usually only seen in books and magazines. WOW!!!
