Blue Grass Reel Works No. 3 with Original Box Circa 1898-1901
Vintage Blue Grass Reel Works No. 3 Circa 1898-1901. This is a fine German Silver reel actually made by B.F. Meek during the 3 years he was in litigation with B.C Milam over name rights and slogans. This reel is very fine unused condition and spins fast & smooth. Sporting the Kentucky style look with the strong clicker and strong brake located on the face as is typical B.F. Meek. Great fine knurling surrounds the rims, Bearing covers, and handle counter weight . The handle and foot are both clean and catalog correct. Early serial number #1538 hides under the foot. The Blue Grass Reel name was later incorporated into the Meek line of reels after the lawsuit with Milam was settled. The name was changed to Just “Blue Grass Reel” and the ( Works )was no longer seen. The box is clean and the first I have ever seen although the label does show some storage wear. Please look at the photo’s for yourself on the label but please understand I have never seen another box from Blue Grass Reel Works and its 120 plus years old. The rest of the box is in good condition and serves this fine reel well.
